Legia sack Urban, Skorża stays for now

WARSAW, Poland. Mar 14 (PS) — Legia Warsaw FC have sacked Jan Urban after his side failed to take 3 points in Bytom this weekend, while Maciej Skorza sits on thin ice with Wisla Krakow.

The Legionista's lost 0:1 away to Polonia Bytom, meanwhile the White Star drew a 0:0 game with Jagiellonia Bialystok - at least gaining 1 point from the match.

Both coaches were warned by both clubs that if they were fail to meet board expectations, they will be sacked. All they needed to do was win, or at the very least collect 1 point. Skorza managed this, while Urban did not.

Urban received news of his sacking through a telephone call from Legia owner Mariusz Walter, who phoned him while returning from Bytom to the capital.

On the Sunday program + Extra on TV Canal + Sport journalist's Tomasz Smokowski and Przemyslaw Rudzki both criticized the way to that Walter chose say goodbye to the coach who led his club since June 2007.

Urban, returning to the capital with the Legia players, knew very well that he would not be leading them in the next Ekstraklasa league match. The coach said goodbye to the players and thanked them for their time worked together.

Urban came to Warsaw from Spain, where he oversaw the training of Spanish side CA Osasuna B. Under his leadership the Legion reached the Polish REMES Cup and Super Cup, and twice won the vice-champion title of the country.

Stefan Bialas has been named as the Legion's new coach for the time being.

Meanwhile, Maciej Skorza will still have the Wisla Krakow board breathing down his neck until they see him win 3 points in his next match.
