WARSAW, Poland. Feb 03 — The Polish national team have risen up one place in the recent Coca-Cola FIFA ranking update.

In this latest rank chart the white-red now find themselves in the 57th position. In turn, in the first top "10" best included the 2010 African champions Egypt join, which thus is the country's best result in history.

After matches in Thailand at the 40th FAT King's Cup 2010™ the Poles went up slightly in this prestigious classification, which does not alter the fact that they still remain in a shamefully low position.

For the moment supporters can only dream that the team led by Franciszek Smuda rank classification will soon rise as high as The Pharaohs had.

The Egyptians after winning the CAF 2010 African Cup of Nations™ jumped fourteen spots and occupy the high ranked, tenth place.

In the very forefront of the ranking there are no changes. The first still remains as Spain, and behind - Brazil and the Netherlands.

Our league is reshifting itself, hard to believe a team like Lech was in the 3rd division at the start of the decade.

I like the way our league is heading actually, we will soon have tons of good mid table clubs, which will force our clubs into hard competition. Tough competition between the league is what will make it improve as opposed to 2 or 3 teams leading the league every year that other countries suffer.

Legia Warsaw, Lech Poznan, Polonia Warsaw, Slask Wroclaw, Ruch Chorzow, Jagiellonia Bialystok, GKS Belchatow, Wisla Krakow, GKS Katowice (maybe if sponsership works out) and Lechia Gdansk.

Sounds like a superb first division! What do you think? Perfect way to enter the new decade imo. Only clubs missing is Gornik Zabrze and Zagielbie Lubin.

However, things are looking up for Polish football. We have all heard the empty promises before, and without surprise, failed to deliver. But this time around, hosting the Euros will bring something tangible. A solid foundation will be put in place and everything else will take care of itself. A growing number of clubs appear to be doing thing right, like Legia Warsaw, Lech Poznan, Polonia Warsaw, Slask Wroclaw, Ruch Chorzow, Jagiellonia, even Wisla just to name a few. Some are further along than other but the evidence is starting to show.

I believe the games in Thailand were not official FIFA sanctioned matches. That is why they only used EK players.

"Shamefully low position"? How do you figure. Consider how poorly football is managed in Poland and how corrupt the EK is/was. Let's not forget the lack of proper infrastructure. Also, interest in football is probably at an all time low. There is a general lack of passion for EK teams. Football is not supported well enough to warrant a higher ranking. For us, the level of play in the EK determines where we rank as a nation on a global scale. Relying on foreign clubs to develop our talent has not been working as well as some other countries, perfect example of that is Croatia. Overall, I'd say the FIFA ranking is, unfortunately, reasonably accurate. So we can complain and point out what is wrong with Polish football but at the end of the day it does not change anything. It just adds to the pessimism and defeatist attitude.

I meant not that the ranking is bad, but we just suck. :(

A country like Poland should at the very least be in the top 20, let along top 50.
