MADRID, Spain. July 18 (PS) — Franciszek Smuda has finished his holiday in Spain and is now returning to work. The Polish national team coach will meet up with his players on August 8 at a training camp in Szczecin.
Smuda, who was fascinated by the play of Germany during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa has now got him thinking to have Poland play a similar brand of football.
The opportunity to strengthen the Polish defense is in players who Smuda sees that have not yet decided to play in a national team yet.
"Finally, I want to talk to Damien Perquis of Sochaux FC. I have to persuade the defender to play for us! It seems to me that Laurent Koscielny is not yet a lost cause. As long as he does not play for France, we still have a chance."
While on the subject, Smuda also reveals that he has not yet forgotten about Werder Bremen's Boenisch.
"Well, I'm still patiently waiting for the signal from Sebastian. I'm not putting any pressure on the Werder Bremen player, but I secretly hope that maybe already in the September matches against the Ukraine and Australia, we will see this player in our colors," admits Smuda.
